This week we were at the beach. Econ Husband and his college friends are having a Significant Birthday with Zeroes this year so they planned a beach getaway. And I was all for it.
The trip overlapped with his Significant Birthday so I made a chocolate coconut cake. Everyone raved about it. I used my grandma’s chocolate cake recipe and then this coconut frosting recipe. No pictures were taken. It was gone in twenty minutes. Our crowd doesn’t mess around when it comes to cake.
We also made Econ Husband A Lord.

Our friend’s 16yo was extremely delighted by this and referred to him as “Your Lordship” for the rest of the week, which, in turn, delighted the rest of us. Then there were discussions of inheritance and our children were disappointed this isn’t an inheritable title. If they want to be lords they have to buy it for themselves.
Anyway, His Lordship and I will be attending a movie later today.
I may get him new business cards. (heh)
The kids and I were there for a two days and then left to allow His Lordship to be a college student again and not a parent. The water was chilly, but the beach pictures were insane. I feel the knots in my shoulders loosening just looking at them.

Beach time is never long enough and, as always, I’ve hit Zillow to see what houses are for sale there. There’s not a lot on the market and what’s there is about $2M. Even if we could afford a two million dollar house, His Lordship makes the very practical point that two houses is a lot of work.
But Beeeeeeaaaaaccccchhhhh. Sigh.
Also, a shoutout to Long Beach Island’s Book Swap bookstore. They sell new and used books of all varieties and have a huge Kids and YA department.

And there’s a coffee shop next door, an ice cream shop across the way, and a fudge shop around the corner. It is ideally located for all my vices!
I have ideas that we might be able to do a quick day trip in August, but our work schedules are off the chain right now, not to mention getting Child #1 set for his August 18th College Move-In. Life moves pretty fast.
I hope you are finding time to visit your happy place this summer and can carry that feeling of joy with you as the days get shorter.
